Lula also said that the legal process going on against Bolsonaro is under the Brazilian judiciary, and interference by any external nation in it is unacceptable. He termed Trump's allegations as "factless and false" and said that in the last 15 years, the US has earned a profit of $410 billion from trade with Brazil.

Trump, while giving the reason for the tariff, said that this decision is against the "unfair treatment" being meted out to former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
