Beijing: The torrential rains that have been continuing for the past several days in Guangdong province of southern China have made the situation uncontrollable. Due to heavy rains, there has been a situation of heavy floods in Huaiji County, due to which life has become completely disrupted. The administration has evacuated about 30,000 people to safer places, while electricity and internet services have completely stopped in many areas.
Huaiji County, which is located near the border of Guangxi region, is located about 140 km northwest of Guangzhou city. The area is a major industrial center and is also considered the capital of Guangdong province. But heavy rains have turned the roads here into canals and people are trapped in homes.
Most of the city has been submerged in flood water. Urban areas have been submerged due to the massive surge in the Shui Jiang river. Aerial footage shows that only the roofs of high-rise buildings and branches of some green trees are visible in the muddy water. In many places, the water has reached the first floor and only the roofs of cars are visible.

Tropical storm 'Wutip' is being blamed for this dire situation, which caused strong winds and heavy rainfall in the area. The monsoon rains that followed worsened the situation. Landslides occurred at two different places in Guangxi province, in which at least five people have been confirmed dead.
Government rescue teams are engaged in relief work day and night. In an interview given to a local newspaper in China, a rescue worker said that his team safely evacuated critically ill patients from a hospital, including a newborn baby and his mother. Milk powder and drinking water were delivered to them. Apart from this, relief material is also being delivered to dozens of children and elderly people trapped in a school.
The local administration and the Meteorological Department are constantly monitoring the situation. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of more rain in the coming days, which may worsen the flood situation. Preparations have been intensified to provide relief to the affected areas through new water level measuring instruments, boats and helicopters.
