Trump issues final ultimatum to Iran
Washington: Tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified even as diplomatic efforts continue, with both sides issuing strong statements that underscore deep divisions over the ongoing conflict.
US President Donald Trump has warned of severe military consequences if negotiations fail, while Iran has called for a “realistic and fair” assessment of the situation, particularly regarding the origins of the conflict.

Speaking amid ongoing talks, Trump said the US is engaged in “serious discussions” with what he described as a “more reasonable regime” in Iran. He expressed optimism about a possible agreement but cautioned that failure to reach a deal could trigger decisive military action.
He warned that key Iranian energy infrastructure, including power plants and the strategic Kharg Island, could be targeted if the Strait of Hormuz is not kept open or if talks collapse. The remarks signal a sharp escalation in rhetoric, raising concerns about potential disruption to global oil supplies.
Responding to broader regional developments, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei addressed recent meetings hosted by Pakistan with neighboring countries. He said Iran has not participated in the framework under which these discussions were held.

Baqaei noted that while regional cooperation for peace and security is welcome, any meaningful dialogue must acknowledge the root causes of the conflict. “It is necessary for perspectives to be realistic and fair,” he said, stressing that responsibility for initiating the war must be clearly identified rather than expecting restraint from only one side.
The exchange highlights widening gaps not just between Washington and Tehran, but also in how regional actors interpret the conflict. Reports of possible US military options, including operations near the Strait of Hormuz, have further heightened tensions.
With both diplomacy and rhetoric intensifying, the situation remains fluid, as global attention turns to whether negotiations can prevent a broader escalation in the region.
