New Delhi: Recently, a major development related to Indian politics and judiciary has come to the fore, in which Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar suddenly resigned from his post. The most important reason behind his move is the acceptance of the impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma.
But, according to the sources, the Rajya Sabha did not approve this proposal. In fact, serious allegations have been leveled against Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma.
On the night of Holi, a fire broke out at his Delhi residence, and when the fire brigade broke the lock of the storeroomto extinguish the fire, half-burnt notes worth crores of rupees were found there.
After this matter came to light, Justice Varma came into controversy. An inquiry committee constituted by the CJI (Chief Justice) has also questioned his role and recommended action against him. However, he has not yet resigned from the post, thereby initiating the process of impeachment against him.
At the beginning of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Opposition MPs introduced an impeachment motion against Justice Varma in the Rajya Sabha.
Jagdeep Dhankhar, who was serving as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha at that time, accepted the motion and directed to start the further process. But the government disagreed with this move, as it planned to start the impeachment first from the Lok Sabha and then send it to the Rajya Sabha.
This move of Dhankhar shocked the government, and it is believed that the differences between the government and the vice president grew so much that he suddenly met President Draupadi Murmu on Monday night and resigned from his post.
This resignation happened suddenly and without any prior notice, which caused a stir in the politics of the country. Now the government has decided that the impeachment process will start in the Lok Sabha.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju clarified that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will form a committee to investigate the allegations against Justice Varma. If the committee finds the allegations to be true, then an impeachment motion will be introduced in Parliament.
This entire incident has once again sparked a deep debate on issues like accountability of the judiciary, interference of the executive, and independence of constitutional posts.
