New Delhi: Selecting a name for a newborn is one of the most cherished decisions parents make. While many families choose names based on cultural traditions, meanings, or family preferences, some also turn to numerology for guidance.

According to numerologist and Vastu coach Arviend Sud, the numerical value associated with a name may play an important role in shaping a person's life.

In a recent Instagram reel, Sud shared three key numerology rules that he believes parents should consider before finalising a name for their child.

Why Numerology Focuses on Names

Numerology is a belief system that assigns numerical values to letters and interprets their influence on personality, opportunities, and life experiences.

Practitioners believe that every name carries a unique numerical vibration that can affect an individual's journey through life. While numerology is not supported by scientific evidence, it remains a popular cultural and spiritual practice for many families when making important life decisions.

Rule 1: Calculate the Total Numerical Value of the Name

Sud advises parents to first determine the complete numerical sum of a name.

According to him, the final total represents the overall energy or vibration associated with the name. He suggests that parents should look beyond a name's popularity or sound and also consider its numerological significance.

Rule 2: Avoid Name Totals of 4 and 8

One of Sud's strongest recommendations is to avoid names whose total numerical value adds up to 4 or 8.

In numerology, he associates:

  • Number 4 with Rahu
  • Number 8 with Shani (Saturn)

According to Sud, these numbers are linked to challenges, obstacles, and struggles, making them less desirable as name totals.

Rule 3: Match the Name With the Child's Driver Number

The third rule involves a person's "driver number," a numerological figure typically calculated from the date of birth.

Sud believes that certain name totals may clash with specific driver numbers, potentially creating what he describes as an energetic imbalance.

His recommendations include:

Driver Number 1: Avoid name total 8
Driver Number 2: Avoid name totals 4, 8, and 9
Driver Number 3: Avoid name total 6

According to numerological beliefs, choosing a compatible name total can help create greater harmony between an individual's birth number and identity.

A Matter of Personal Belief

While numerology continues to influence naming decisions for many families, it is important to note that these ideas are based on spiritual and cultural beliefs rather than scientific research.

For most parents, naming a child remains a deeply personal choice shaped by family traditions, values, meanings, and aspirations. Whether guided by numerology or personal preference, the name ultimately becomes an important part of a child's identity and story.
