New Delhi: Summer road trips offer a unique thrill, but the intense heat can pose a significant challenge for your car. If you set out without proper preparation, the risk of a breakdown midway through your journey increases substantially. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to check a few key items beforehand to ensure your trip remains both safe and comfortable.

Pay Special Attention to Coolant and Engine Oil

During the summer season, engine temperatures rise rapidly. In such conditions, maintaining the correct coolant level is crucial, as it plays a vital role in keeping the engine cool. If the coolant level is low, the engine could overheat and potentially shut down.

Equally important is the engine oil. Old or low oil levels increase friction between engine components, which further exacerbates heat generation. Therefore, make sure to check your oil levels before embarking on your trip.

Tire and Battery Checks Are Essential

In hot weather, the air inside tires expands, increasing the risk of a tire blowout. Consequently, maintaining the correct tire pressure is paramount. Additionally, inspect your tires to ensure they are not excessively worn, cut, or damaged.

Car batteries can also weaken rapidly in the heat. High temperatures cause the battery fluid to evaporate, which can lead to difficulties in starting the car. Therefore, it is advisable to have your battery checked in advance.

Keep Your AC and Essential Documents Ready

During the summer, a car's air conditioning is arguably its most essential feature. If the AC is not functioning correctly, the journey can become extremely uncomfortable. Therefore, check beforehand to ensure the cooling system is working properly; if necessary, have the AC gas refilled or the filters cleaned.

Furthermore, do not forget to carry essential car documents—such as your Registration Certificate (RC), insurance papers, and Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate—with you. These small precautions can save you from major hassles down the road.

Before setting out on a summer road trip, a little bit of preparation can go a long way in ensuring your entire journey remains safe, smooth, and comfortable. Instead of overlooking minor details, take the time to inspect them beforehand to ensure your journey is enjoyable rather than stressful.
