Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has described the ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ Cycle Race 2026 as a reflection of the region’s progressive aspirations, highlighting sports as a powerful means of youth empowerment, social unity and the fight against drug abuse.
Addressing the prize distribution ceremony organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police, Sinha commended the participants for their determination and enthusiasm. He also praised the police force for complementing its security responsibilities with community engagement and initiatives aimed at building public trust.
The Lieutenant Governor said sporting activities encourage discipline, confidence, leadership and a positive outlook among young people. He stressed that Jammu and Kashmir’s development should be measured not only by its past challenges but also by the ambitions, talent and opportunities available to its younger generation. He called for collective efforts to provide young people with platforms to develop their abilities and pursue opportunities in education, innovation, entrepreneurship and public service.
Emphasising the need to protect young people from substance abuse, Sinha urged citizens to support the national mission of making India drug-free by 2029. He said the cycling event carried a broader social message, encouraging fitness, healthy living and constructive engagement among youth. He also called for compassion towards people struggling with addiction, stressing that they should receive appropriate assistance rather than face social exclusion.
Sinha appreciated the police department’s civic action programmes and sporting initiatives, saying such activities can strengthen police-public relations while encouraging young people to participate in constructive pursuits. Drawing inspiration from the Rigveda’s message of welcoming noble thoughts from all directions, he encouraged youth to remain open to knowledge and new ideas. Concluding his address, Sinha called for a united effort to build a peaceful, prosperous, safe and healthier Jammu and Kashmir, describing the race as a reminder of the role sports can play in social transformation.
