Mumbai: Acting on the directives of the Election Commission, a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign has commenced in Mumbai and its suburban areas. The BMC has appealed to all political parties to extend their cooperation to ensure the success of this process.
The primary objective of this campaign is to update the voter list. Under this initiative:
The SIR process will be completed in a total of six phases:
The last time such a comprehensive revision was undertaken in Maharashtra was in 2002. Now, in 2026, this process has been launched once again on a large scale, and it will be implemented across the entire state.
This time, technology is being utilized to enhance the accuracy of the process. The voter list from 2002 is being cross-referenced with data from 2024, and mapping is being conducted through the BLO app.
Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide has appealed to all political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) in their respective constituencies to ensure that the process is completed in a transparent and timely manner.
Representatives from various political parties—including Kishori Pednekar—along with senior officials, were present at the meeting held to discuss this matter.
An accurate and updated voter list is absolutely essential for ensuring the fairness of any election. The SIR campaign will play a pivotal role in making the electoral process even more transparent and credible.
