New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday paid homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 151st birth anniversary, describing his contribution to national integration and the creation of a unified India as unparalleled.

Shah recalled Patel's role in bringing together the princely states following Independence and credited him with laying the institutional foundations of India's administrative machinery through the establishment of the All India Services.

He also referred to Patel's participation in the Kheda and Bardoli Satyagrahas, highlighting his contribution to the freedom movement.

In a separate political attack, Shah alleged that the Congress had failed to give Patel the recognition he deserved and had attempted to diminish his legacy. He credited the Narendra Modi government with bringing Patel's contribution into national focus through the construction of the Statue of Unity.
