Historic journey of 28 hours
Under the Axiom-4 mission, Shubhanshu and three other astronauts took off from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida on June 25 as per Indian time. The mission was launched with the help of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. The Dragon spacecraft accompanying them successfully docked at 4:30 pm on June 26 after a long and complex journey of 28 hours.
What does docking mean?
Docking is a technical process in which a vehicle is attached to a space station. This means that now the astronauts can safely enter the station and use the resources there. With docking, the actual mission of Shubhanshu Shukla and his team has begun.
More than 60 scientific experiments will be conducted on the ISS
Under the Axiom-4 mission, Shubhanshu and his team have to stay on the International Space Station for about 14 days. During this time they will carry out about 60 scientific experiments. These experiments include microgravity, the effects of space on the human body, testing of new medicines, and research related to the environment. This is considered to be the most scientifically rich mission of the Axiom mission so far.
