New Delhi: Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, affecting millions of men and women every year. It is a serious disease that can make anyone its victim. It has many types, which affect different parts of the body.

Every year many men and women fall prey to it, but men are more vulnerable than women. This is not what we say, but the doctor himself says. Giving information about this, cancer specialist Dr. Harish Verma shared a video on his social media account and explained why men are more at risk of cancer than women.

If Dr. Harish is to be believed, women are more likely to be diagnosed with cancer, but men are much more likely to die from it. There can be some major reasons for this, which are as follows-

Men avoid regular checkups

Women often consult a doctor for their checkup or to know about any problem, but usually men avoid doing so. They do not go to the doctor until they feel any serious problem. This means that cancer is often identified late in men, which makes their treatment difficult.

According to a survey by the Cleveland Clinic, 44% of men say that they do not go to the doctor unless it is very important.

Ignoring early symptoms

There are some early symptoms that help in identifying cancer in time. Weight loss without any reason? Lumps or swelling? Constant fatigue? Change in bowel or bladder habits? Many men ignore these warning signs until it is too late.

Considering seeking help as a weakness

Men are brought up in such a way in society that seeking help is considered a weakness. In such a situation, men often ignore the pain, which later proves to be harmful for their health and thus cancer gets more time to grow.

Habits that increase the risk

Men are more likely to be surrounded by habits like smoking, alcohol, red meat, staying up late, processed food, lack of exercise. This increases the risk of lung, liver, throat, colon and prostate cancer.

Apart from this, inflammation, insulin resistance, hormone imbalance all promote cancer. Still, most men get tested only when the symptoms become severe.

Protect yourself like this

Looking at all these reasons, it is known that due to some of their habits and thinking, more men die from this serious disease. In such a situation, you can protect yourself by keeping in mind some things told by the doctor.

Listen to your body, not just your mind

Prioritize annual checkups, blood tests, gut health and hormones

Give up on lifestyle habits that put you at risk

Get good sleep and choose a nutritious diet

Talk to your doctor, partner or friends about your health

Early action saves lives. Getting tested is not weakness, it is wisdom.
