CJI Justice Gavai inaugurates Mandangad Court, fulfills Ambedkar’s vision of grassroots justice

Maharashtra: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice B.R. Gavai recently visited his home state of Maharashtra. During his visit, he inaugurated the new civil and criminal court building in Mandangad taluka, Ratnagiri district.

This occasion was not only a significant moment in his judicial career but also a very emotional and special one for him personally, as he inaugurated it just a month before his retirement.

Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Justice Gavai emphasized the need for better coordination between the judiciary and the executive. He said that both institutions must work together to strengthen the judicial infrastructure and make justice accessible to the general public.

He stated that this new court building is a major step towards providing access to justice to people living in rural and backward areas.

Historical Significance of Mandangad

Justice Gavai described this court building as having historical significance. Mandangad taluka is located near Ambadve, the ancestral village of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

He described the establishment of the court in this area as the fulfillment of Babasaheb's dreams and a true tribute to his principles. He said that this building will play an important role in providing justice to marginalized sections of society.

A milestone in a 22-year judicial journey

Justice Gavai explained that during his 22-yearjudicial career, he has always strived to decentralize justice and improve judicial infrastructure.

He said that the Kolhapur Circuit Bench and now the Mandangad Court building are two major achievements of his career that give him satisfaction. This inauguration was also personally special for him, as he is set to retire on November 23rd next month.

Chief Minister and other dignitaries present

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court Justice Chandrashekhar, and Guardian Minister of Ratnagiri District Uday Samant.

The Chief Minister praised Justice Gavai's contributions and said that his name will be remembered in the history of the judiciary. Justice Gavai's visit was not just an inaugural ceremony but also a symbol of a deep social and historical awareness.

It was a strong step towards realizing the principles and values ​​of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, which demonstrates that justice should not be limited to big cities but should reach the last person in the country.

This building will certainly help increase access to justice in rural areas and serve as an inspiring example for judicial reforms.
