New Delhi: The Delhi government is undertaking a major reorganization to make the administrative system more efficient and public-friendly. This will expand the current 11 revenue districts to 13. The number of Sub-Division (SDM) offices will also be increased from 33 to 39.

The government believes that the new structure will provide faster service to the public and reduce the number of visits to government offices.

Cabinet Gives In-Principle Approval

According to government sources, the Delhi Cabinet has given in-principle approval to this proposal. The proposal will now be sent to the Lieutenant Governor. After receiving the LG's approval, the new district-wise system will be implemented.

The government plans to establish a mini-secretariat in each district, where all departmental work, except law and order, will be completed within a single complex. This will eliminate the need for the public to navigate multiple offices.

How will Delhi's map change?

New boundaries for the districts have been proposed based on the 11 municipal zones.

The Sadar Zone will be renamed Old Delhi.

In the trans-Yamuna region, the East and North-East districts will be abolished and two new districts will be created: Shahdara North and Shahdara South.

The existing North district will be divided into two parts: Civil Lines and Old Delhi.

A large part of the South-West district will be included in the new Najafgarh district.

Proposed list of new districts

What will the public benefit from?

A large population of Delhi visits various government offices daily for government work. Often, both time and money are wasted in going from one department to another.

Increasing the number of districts and subdivisions will:

  • Services will be available closer to the public's homes.
  • File processing will be faster.
  • Office congestion will be reduced.
  • Transparency in administrative processes will increase.

Experts say that this reorganization is the need of the hour given Delhi's rapidly growing population. The new districting will make the capital's administration more modern, efficient, and streamlined.
