East Vinod Nagar Metro Station was honored with the award
New Delhi: The East Vinod Nagar Metro Station on the Pink Line of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been awarded the 'Best Performing Unit in the Metro Stations Sector' under the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) 2025. DMRC's Managing Director, Dr. Vikas Kumar, received the award from the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at the National Energy Conservation Day ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, in recognition of the East Vinod Nagar Metro Station's exemplary efforts in energy efficiency.
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, selected the station after a comprehensive evaluation of applications received from various metro rail systems across the country. The East Vinod Nagar Metro Station achieved this distinction by demonstrating a significant and consistent reduction in total electrical energy consumption (in kilowatt-hours) and Energy Performance Index (EPI) (kilowatt-hour consumption over two years) over the past three financial years.
This was accomplished through regular monitoring of energy usage of various equipment and the implementation of targeted energy conservation measures, including the replacement of 405 existing conventional 2x28 watt tube light fixtures with 2x14 watt LED tube lights.
The station has a dedicated 150 kW rooftop solar power plant, which meets 49% of its total energy requirement through solar energy, significantly reducing its dependence on grid electricity.
The station has also received a "Platinum" rating under the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) certification from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), further validating its strong commitment to sustainability and environmental management.
This NECA award reflects DMRC's continued commitment to reducing energy consumption, implementing innovative energy conservation measures, adopting solar energy, and, in turn, promoting environmentally responsible urban mobility.
