Delhi Metro to run 6 more trains
New Delhi: In a move aimed at easing commuter woes and reducing dependence on private vehicles during the ongoing fuel shortage, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced the deployment of six additional trains starting May 18. This expansion will add 24 extra trips to the Metro’s daily schedule.
Extra Trains to Tackle Monday Rush
The initiative will initially focus on Mondays, when Metro stations witness peak crowds due to office commuters. “With the launch of these additional trains, we aim to provide faster and more comfortable travel for passengers on the busiest day of the week,” said DMRC officials. Depending on demand, similar services could be extended to other weekdays.
Enhanced Safety and Convenience Measures
To manage the expected surge in passenger traffic, DMRC is stepping up station-level arrangements. Additional ticket counters will be opened to reduce waiting times, while more baggage scanners and frisking facilities will ensure smoother security checks. Extra security personnel will also be deployed across stations for passenger safety.
Boosting Public Transport to Reduce Road Traffic
The DMRC emphasized that its extensive network is well-integrated with key transport hubs, including railway stations, inter-state bus terminals, airports, the RRTS, Noida Metro, and Rapid Metro systems.
By encouraging more commuters to switch to the Metro, the initiative is expected to reduce road congestion and help curb fuel consumption across the city.
