New Delhi: The IMD (India Meteorological Department) has placed Delhi-NCR under a yellow alert for October 29 and 30, warning of rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds. Hailstorms may also occur in areas of Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh during these two days.

Wind speeds could reach 40–50 kmph during the morning hours on Thursday. Gusts of 30–40 kmph are expected during the remainder of the day, as unsettled weather conditions persist.

Residents should remain alert to changing weather conditions, particularly during periods of lightning and strong winds.

Hailstorm Possibility Raises Weather Concerns

The IMD has also warned of isolated hailstorms over Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh on October 29 and 30. The forecast indicates that the spell of unstable weather could continue into Friday, with thunderstorms and rain likely across the region.

People travelling outdoors are advised to exercise caution during stormy conditions and follow official weather updates. Strong winds and reduced visibility during rainfall may also affect road travel.

Temperature Likely to Drop

Delhi's maximum temperature is forecast to reach around 27 degrees Celsius on Thursday, while the minimum is expected to remain near 17 degrees Celsius. Cloud cover and rainfall are likely to keep conditions relatively cool compared with warmer, sunnier days.

Delhi's Air Quality Deteriorates

The weather alert comes amid worsening air quality in the capital. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 229 on Wednesday, placing it in the poor category. The reading had risen from 197 on Tuesday, ending four consecutive days of moderate air quality.

Residents are advised to monitor IMD advisories for further updates on rainfall, thunderstorms and possible hailstorms across Delhi-NCR.
