New Delhi: Residents across New Delhi and nearby NCR regions are likely to witness a change in weather conditions on Monday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain, thunderstorms and strong winds over the next two days.
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for May 11 and May 12, warning people about possible lightning activity and gusty winds across several parts of the national capital region.
According to the IMD forecast, Delhi-NCR may experience light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms during the day and evening hours. Wind speeds are expected to range between 40 and 60 kmph during thunderstorm activity.
Weather Update: Storms Wreak Havoc in Some Regions, While Heatwaves Scorch Others
Officials said the changing weather pattern could bring temporary relief from the intense heat that has affected several parts of North India in recent days.
The sky is expected to remain partly cloudy during the early hours before turning generally cloudy later in the day. Light showers may occur in isolated areas, especially during morning and evening periods.
The IMD said the minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature could hover around 37 to 39 degrees Celsius.
Over the last 24 hours, the national capital recorded a slight increase in daytime temperature, though weather conditions remained relatively stable compared to previous heatwave trends.
On Sunday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 26.2 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 37.9 degrees Celsius. South-easterly winds with speeds of 15 to 20 kmph were observed across the city.
The weather department has predicted similar weather activity across several states in North-West India between May 11 and May 14.
Parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Bihar have also recorded temperatures below normal in the past 24 hours. Meteorologists believe the current weather system could help reduce heat intensity temporarily in many northern regions.

The IMD has advised residents to avoid standing in open spaces during thunderstorms and stay away from trees or weak structures because of the possibility of falling branches and lightning strikes.
Authorities have also urged commuters to remain cautious during evening travel hours due to possible waterlogging and reduced visibility in some areas.
Meanwhile, summer vacations in Delhi government schools have officially begun from May 11, although special remedial classes for students of Classes 9, 10 and 12 will continue during the break.
