India receives fresh LPG supplies amid Middle East tensions, easing concerns of shortage. The government says panic buying and rumours not supply gaps are behind long queues in several cities.
New Delhi: Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, concerns over fuel supply disruptions have triggered anxiety across parts of India. However, the government has assured that there is no shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the country.
In a significant development, an LPG carrier named Nanda Devi has reached India carrying around 47,000 metric tonnes of cooking gas through the Strait of Hormuz. A day earlier, another vessel, Shivalik, delivered approximately 45,000 metric tonnes of LPG at Mundra Port.
Officials said another ship, Jag Ladki, is currently en route to India, further strengthening supply lines at a time of global uncertainty.
Despite steady supplies, several cities have reported long queues outside gas distribution centres. Authorities attribute the situation largely to panic buying and hoarding rather than any actual shortage.
In some areas, hotels have temporarily shut operations, and prices of food items have begun to rise due to concerns over fuel availability. Officials warned that misinformation and rumours have contributed to unnecessary panic among consumers.

The government has reiterated that adequate LPG stocks are available nationwide. Consumers have been urged to avoid hoarding and follow normal booking procedures to ensure smooth distribution.
Officials also noted that artificial demand created by panic buying is placing temporary pressure on local supply chains, even as overall availability remains stable.
