New Delhi: IndiGo has announced the formation of a Crisis Management Group (CMG) to address the ongoing disruptions caused by widespread flight cancellations and delays.

The move comes as part of the airline’s intensified efforts to restore operational stability and minimize inconvenience for passengers. The newly formed CMG includes Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta, Board Directors Gregg Saretsky, Mike Whitaker, Amitabh Kant, and CEO Pieter Elbers.

Board Acts Immediately as Crisis Emerges

In its statement, IndiGo clarified that the Board of Directors of Interglobe Aviation Limited convened on the very first day the disruptions surfaced. The members were given a detailed briefing by the management on the nature and extent of the crisis, followed by a Board-only session where the decision to establish the CMG was taken.

“The Board met on the first day the problem of cancellations and delayed flights arose. After receiving a detailed briefing, the Board decided to set up a Crisis Management Group comprising the Chairman, Board Directors, and the CEO,” the airline stated.

CMG Meets Regularly to Monitor Situation

The CMG has been meeting regularly and is being continuously updated by the airline’s management on all measures being undertaken to restore normal operations. Multiple telephonic discussions have also been held, including with directors who are not part of the CMG, to ensure coordination and prompt action.

“This Group has been meeting regularly to monitor the situation and is being constantly updated by the management about the steps being taken to restore operations,” the statement added.

Focus on Customers and Operational Integrity

IndiGo emphasised that the primary objective of the CMG is to address customer hardships while quickly restoring operational integrity. The airline assured passengers that it is doing everything possible to mitigate inconvenience, including providing refunds for cancelled flights and offering waivers on cancellations and rescheduling during the crisis.

“The Board of Directors is doing everything possible to take care of the challenges faced by our customers and to ensure refunds on cancellations and offer waivers on cancellation or rescheduling during the period of crisis,” the statement read.

With this proactive approach, IndiGo aims to demonstrate its commitment to passenger welfare and operational reliability, signalling a concerted effort by the airline’s leadership to overcome one of the most challenging periods in its recent operational history.
