The Election Commission of India has announced a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Assam. This follows the second phase of SIR in 12 states and Union Territories, including Gujarat, Kerala, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The final updated voter list will be published on February 7, 2026.
Election Commission Initiates Special Voter List Revision in Assam
New Delhi: The Election Commission on Monday issued an order for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Assam. The Commission states that the purpose of this process is to remove any errors or discrepancies in the voter list and to correctly register all eligible citizens.
It is noteworthy that in October 2025, the Central Election Commission announced the second phase of SIR of voter lists in 12 states and union territories. These states and territories include Andaman and Nicobar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

According to the Election Commission, after the SIR is launched in Assam, all citizens will have the opportunity to verify their name, age, and address. Those who have not yet been included in the voter list can enroll their names through the new registration process.
After the completion of the SIR, the final voter list for Assam and other states will be published on February 7, 2026. The Commission stated that this list will be used in the upcoming elections to ensure voter identification and transparency in the electoral process.
SIR drive in 12 states; 42 crore forms distributed in 10 days
The Election Commission has appealed to all citizens to participate in the SIR process and submit their information correctly. The Commission has also asked officials and local administrations to provide full support to ensure the smooth conduct of the process.
The Special Intensive Revision will remove all errors in the voter list, including name errors, duplicate entries, and address discrepancies. This will make the election process in Assam more transparent and fair.
