Lucknow: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has provided significant relief to citizens in Uttar Pradesh by extending the deadline for claims and objections under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

Voters now have time until March 6, 2026, to apply for inclusion, deletion, or correction of details in the electoral roll. After this date, no applications will be accepted. The final and revised voter list will be published on April 10, 2026, according to the Election Commission.

Why March 6 Is a Crucial Deadline

The Election Commission has emphasized that March 6 is extremely important for citizens whose names are missing from the draft voter list or whose personal details contain errors.

If eligible voters fail to submit corrections or applications before the deadline, they may have to wait until the next revision cycle. This delay could potentially prevent them from participating in upcoming elections, making timely action essential.

Importance of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)

The Special Intensive Revision is conducted to ensure that electoral rolls are accurate, updated, and free from irregularities. Through this process, names of deceased voters, duplicate entries, and ineligible individuals are removed.

At the same time, eligible citizens are added with correct and verified information. This exercise plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity, transparency, and credibility of the election process.

Why Checking the Draft Voter List Matters

Even when a voter’s name appears on the list, errors related to spelling, age, address, or parent/spouse details are common. Such inaccuracies can create serious issues on polling day, including denial of voting rights.

To avoid these problems, the Election Commission has urged all citizens to carefully verify their details in the draft voter list and ensure everything is accurate well before the deadline.

How to Verify Voter Details Online

Citizens can easily check their voter details through the Election Commission’s official website, voters.eci.gov.in, by using the “Search in Electoral Roll” option. Additionally, voter information can be verified through the Voter Helpline App and ECINET app, making the process accessible and convenient from home.

What to Do If Your Name Is Missing

If a voter’s name does not appear in the draft list or has been mistakenly removed, they must apply using Form 6 to register as a new voter. This form can be submitted online or through the local Booth Level Officer (BLO) or Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). Applicants must provide valid identity and address proof along with the form.

Correcting Errors in Voter Information

In cases where voter details such as name, date of birth, address, or parent/spouse information are incorrect, voters can submit Form 8 to request corrections. The Election Commission has stressed that accurate voter data is essential for a reliable electoral system and encourages citizens to complete corrections promptly.

The extension of the SIR deadline offers voters in Uttar Pradesh a valuable opportunity to ensure their voting rights are protected. By checking and correcting voter details before March 6, citizens can confidently participate in future elections without facing last-minute complications.
