New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has intensified its crackdown on food companies over misleading advertisements, false claims, and violations of labeling regulations. The food safety regulator has issued more than 150 show-cause notices to companies in recent months for alleged non-compliance with food safety norms.

According to the FSSAI, several major brands have come under regulatory scrutiny, including Nestle India, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola India, Abbott India, Red Bull India, Danone India, Monster Energy India, Mondelez India, Ferrero India, Diageo, Pernod Ricard, and Kenvue Inc.

The regulator said the action has been initiated to protect consumers from misleading information and ensure that food products available in the market comply with established safety and labeling standards.

FSSAI Takes Action Against E-commerce Platforms

The FSSAI also revealed that regulatory action has been taken against online marketplaces for violations related to food products. Twelve notices have been issued to major e-commerce platforms, including Amazon and Flipkart.

In one case, the license of an Amazon warehouse was cancelled following regulatory violations. The food safety authority has also seized products from certain companies found violating compliance requirements.

Action Against Restaurants and Food Service Chains

Apart from packaged food companies and e-commerce platforms, several popular food service outlets have also faced action from FSSAI.

More than 30 notices have been issued to restaurant chains and food outlets, including KFC, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Costa Coffee.

The regulator has suspended five licenses of Domino's outlets as part of its enforcement measures.

FSSAI stated that these actions are part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen food safety monitoring, improve transparency in labeling, and ensure that consumers receive accurate information about the products they purchase.
