Shimla: In two tragic incidents that occurred within the past two days in Himachal Pradesh, six people lost their lives and two others were seriously injured in Mandi and Kullu districts.
Four people died and two were injured in a road accident on Sunday near Kamand in the Padhar area of Mandi district.
According to reports, a Mahindra pickup vehicle carrying workers veered off the road and plunged into a gorge. The accident occurred under the Kamand police station jurisdiction on the Mandi-Parashar road. While four workers died on the spot, the injured were rushed to Zonal Hospital Mandi.
In a separate incident in the Manikaran valley of Kullu district, a mother and daughter—identified as Avinash Kaur and Nishu Verma—died after being struck by a falling tree in Sumaropa.
The family, which had come to Kullu to celebrate the wedding anniversary of Gurbachan Singh and Avinash Kaur, was preparing to cut the cake on Saturday.
The tragic accident left a deep emotional scar on the family. Gurbachan lost his wife and daughter, while his son-in-law Rajan Kumar lost both his wife and mother-in-law. The bodies were sent to Ludhiana after post-mortem formalities at Regional Hospital Kullu.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep sorrow over both accidents. Calling the incidents heart-wrenching, he said the state government stands firmly with the bereaved families in this difficult time.
He directed district administrations to provide all possible assistance to the affected families and ensure the best medical care for the injured.
The Chief Minister prayed for peace for the departed souls and strength for the grieving families while wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
In the second week of April over 30 people were injured after a tourist bus overturned on the Chandigarh-Manali Highway near Mandi, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
The bus was heading toward Kasol in Kullu district. The accident occurred early Sunday morning Mandi.
"The bus was carrying tourists when it lost control and overturned, possibly due to overspeeding. According to a preliminary investigation, overspeeding may be the likely cause of the mishap, said the Additional Superintendent of Police Sagar Chander.
Some of the passengers are critically injured and have been referred to Nerchowk Medical College for advanced care. The driver and conductor of the bus are also injured.
After getting the information the Police and the rescue teams reached the spot quickly.
An FIR has been registered and further investigation is underway.
