Delhi Police Releases Video Of Abhijeet Dipke In Detention (Img: X)
New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday released a video showing officers informing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke about his grandmother’s death while he was in detention. The footage was released after allegations by his mother that the police had misled the family about whether he had been informed.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Neha Yadav, officers informed Dipke about his grandmother’s death and the timing of the funeral. They also offered to arrange travel to his hometown in Maharashtra so he could attend the last rites, along with assistance with flights, phone calls and other arrangements.
Yadav said officers approached Dipke soon after learning about the death and repeatedly asked whether he wished to speak to his parents. She claimed he declined the assistance offered by the police. When informed about his grandmother’s demise and given the option of going home, Dipke reportedly replied, “I will stay here."

The video was released after Dipke’s mother, Anita Dipke, accused the Delhi Police of providing false information about whether her son had been told of the death. She said the family had been unable to contact him and had delayed the last rites while waiting for him to return.
The police maintained that Dipke had been informed about the death and the funeral schedule, and that assistance to travel home had been offered on humanitarian grounds.
Dipke’s paternal grandmother, Savitribai Shankarrao Dipke, 85, died at her home in Santuk Pimpri village in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district at around 11.30 am on Saturday. She had reportedly been suffering from age-related health issues and a prolonged illness. Her last rites were scheduled for 10 am on Sunday.
Dipke, CJP co-convenor Saurav Das and party leader Ashutosh Ranka were detained on October 10 after arriving in Delhi from Mumbai. They had travelled to the capital for the party’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar, where CJP intended to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Yadav said permission for the proposed sit-in at Janpath had been denied because the organisers allegedly failed to follow the prescribed procedures. She also cited the group’s previous conduct and the prevailing security and law-and-order situation. Restrictions under Section 133 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were also in force in several areas, police said.

Yadav alleged that CJP had previously failed to honour undertakings and comply with local directives. She further claimed that an earlier gathering had involved stone-pelting, arson and violence, causing damage to public property.
“Permission for the proposed sit-in protest at Janpath was denied due to the failure to follow prescribed procedures, a history of non-compliance with laws and guidelines, and the prevailing security and law-and-order situation," she said.
The three CJP leaders were subsequently released after being produced before an executive magistrate.
