New Delhi: Mallikarjun Kharge said that all the leaders of the INDIA alliance have together completed the discussion on the Delimitation Bill, and now they will unitedly oppose it. This decision was taken after the meeting of opposition parties.
The opposition says that through this bill the number of Lok Sabha seats can be increased by about 50%, but there is no clear provision to maintain the balance of representation among the states. This may reduce the seats of some states, which may reduce their political strength.
Indian National Congress and other opposition parties made it clear that they are not against the Women's Reservation Bill. Kharge said that Congress had earlier also supported this bill, and it was passed unanimously in Parliament.
Opposition leaders allege that the government is linking the women's reservation law with the delimitation process, which is not correct. They believe that an attempt is being made to take political advantage of this, and inequality between the states may increase.
Many big leaders participated in this important meeting, like the following:
All of them together made a common strategy.
Congress leader K.C. Venugopal clearly said that the opposition will vote against the delimitation bill. It is clear from this that the conflict between the government and the opposition on this issue may increase in Parliament.
Overall, the political atmosphere regarding the delimitation bill has become heated. While the government is calling it a necessary reform, the opposition is considering it an injustice to the states. This issue may become a bigger political controversy in the future.
