New Delhi: India has been designated Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s largest and most influential trade fair for organic food and agriculture, being held in Nuremberg, Germany. The prestigious recognition places India at the centre of global attention for its growing leadership in organic farming and sustainable agriculture.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, is spearheading India’s participation with a high-impact and expanded presence.

The showcase reflects India’s rich agricultural heritage, rising export capabilities, and its role as a key global supplier of certified organic products.

After a gap of 14 years, India’s organic sector is once again taking centre stage at BIOFACH, with participation scaled up significantly compared to previous editions. This expansion mirrors the rapid growth of Indian organic exports, increasing international demand, and stronger engagement from exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, and state agencies.

The India Country Pavilion, spread across 1,074 square metres, features 67 co-exhibitors representing exporters, FPOs, organic certification laboratories, state government bodies, and commodity boards.

A diverse range of organic products is on display, including rice, oilseeds, pulses, herbs, spices, cashew, ginger, turmeric, large cardamom, cinnamon, mango purée, essential oils, and other value-added products.

More than 20 States and Union Territories are participating, highlighting India’s vast agro-climatic diversity. These include Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and others. Each region is showcasing its unique organic offerings and traditional strengths.

Adding a sensory dimension to the pavilion, APEDA has curated live food tastings for international visitors. Aromatic organic basmati rice biryani, prepared with Indian organic spices, is being served alongside five GI-tagged heritage rice varieties-Indrayani, Navara, Gobindbhog, Red Rice, and Chak Hao (Black Rice)-celebrating India’s rich food legacy.

As part of India’s Country of the Year status, APEDA has also launched extensive branding and promotional campaigns at key locations across the Nuremberg Messe Exhibition Centre, ensuring strong visibility throughout the event.

With global focus intensifying on sustainability and environmentally responsible consumption, India’s recognition at BIOFACH 2026 reinforces its position as a global leader in organic agriculture.

Through APEDA’s continued support and targeted export initiatives, India remains committed to supplying high-quality, sustainable organic products and strengthening its vision of becoming the organic food basket of the world.
