India strongly countered Pakistan at the UN Human Rights Council, saying Jammu and Kashmir’s development budget exceeds Pakistan’s recent IMF bailout. The sharp response also accused Islamabad of spreading propaganda over the region.

India rebuts Pakistan’s claims on Kashmir at UN Human Rights Council
New Delhi: India delivered a sharp response to Pakistan at the United Nations Human Rights Council session, asserting that development in Jammu and Kashmir reflects stability and progress despite repeated criticism from Islamabad.
The statement was made during the 61st session of the council, where India rejected allegations raised by Pakistan and members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation regarding the situation in the region. India’s representative Anupama Singh said the accusations were baseless and part of a repeated narrative driven by Pakistan.

Highlighting the scale of development spending, India said that the budget allocated for Jammu and Kashmir is more than double the financial assistance recently sought by Pakistan from the International Monetary Fund.
The comparison was used to underline the economic progress in the Union Territory. According to India’s statement, the development push reflects improved governance, infrastructure investment, and welfare initiatives being implemented in the region. The remarks also suggested that Pakistan’s criticism stems from frustration over its own economic challenges.
During the address, India firmly dismissed statements made by Pakistan and supported by the OIC, accusing the grouping of acting as an “echo chamber” for one member state.
The Indian delegation said Islamabad continues to raise the Kashmir issue on international platforms despite lacking credible evidence for its claims.
Officials also stated that Pakistan has repeatedly attempted to internationalise the matter, even though India considers it an internal issue.
Reaffirming its long-standing position, India said Jammu and Kashmir “was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.”

The Indian representative stated that the region’s accession to India in 1947 was fully legal and consistent with the provisions of the Indian Independence Act as well as international legal frameworks. India further argued that the only unresolved matter relating to the region is Pakistan’s alleged illegal occupation of certain territories.
India concluded its response by urging Pakistan to vacate territories it says are under unlawful control.
New Delhi maintained that peace and stability in the region would be strengthened if Islamabad stopped spreading what India described as propaganda and addressed its own domestic challenges instead.
