New Delhi: In a significant step toward strengthening India’s democratic framework, Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal raised the need for secure Absentee Voting and E-Voting systems in the Lok Sabha.

His speech emphasized the importance of modernizing the voting process so every Indian—within the country or abroad—gets equal access to their democratic right.

Need for ‘Ease of Voting’ in India

MP Jindal highlighted that while India focuses on “Ease of Living” and “Ease of Doing Business,” it is equally vital to promote “Ease of Voting.”

He pointed out that India has over 1.5 crore NRIs who hold Indian citizenship but most of them are unable to fly back during elections, leading to the loss of millions of potential votes.

Why NRIs and Many Citizens Miss Voting

A large population, including NRIs, senior citizens, divyang voters, migrant laborers, and individuals living far from their hometowns, often cannot reach polling booths on election day. Their absence directly affects overall voter turnout, which generally stays around 64–65 percent.

India’s Strength in Digital Innovation

MP Jindal stated that India is already a global leader in secure digital systems—be it digital payments, Aadhaar authentication, or online public services.

If countries such as Estonia, France, Switzerland, and Mexico can adopt E-Voting successfully, India too can deploy a reliable, well-secured digital voting platform.

Proposal for Secure Absentee & Remote Voting

He urged the government and the Election Commission to study global best practices and introduce a mechanism that allows voters to cast their ballots remotely or at least one week before polling day. This system, he said, would ensure inclusivity and significantly boost national voter participation.
