New Delhi: Many important decisions have been taken in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government has approved a special package of Rs 52,667 crore, in which special focus has been given to education, LPG subsidy, infrastructure, and development of northeastern states. Giving this information, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this package will benefit various sectors of the country.

Major announcements and their importance

1. Rs 4,200 crore for the education sector

The government has approved a scheme of Rs 4,200 crore to strengthen 275 technical institutions (175 engineering colleges and 100 polytechnics). This scheme has been named MERIT, which aims to promote multidisciplinary education and research. In this, Rs 2,100 crore will be taken as a loan from the World Bank. This is a big step towards improving the quality of technical education in the country.

2. Rs 30,000 crore on LPG subsidy

To provide LPG gas to the middle class at affordable rates, the government has approved a subsidy of Rs 30,000 crore. This will provide relief to the oil marketing companies (OMCs), and the prices of LPG cylinders will not increase. Ashwini Vaishnav said that this subsidy was necessary in view of the fluctuations in gas prices in the global market.

3. Rs 12,060 crore for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

Taking forward the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which provides free LPG connections to poor families, the government has approved an assistance amount of Rs 12,060 crore for 2025-26. So far, connections have been given to 10.33 crore beneficiaries under this scheme. This scheme is playing an important role in promoting women's empowerment and clean energy.

4. Special package for Northeast

A special package of Rs 4,250 crore has been approved for the development of the northeastern states Assam and Tripura. This will develop infrastructure, education, and health facilities in these states.

This package of the government has been prepared keeping in mind the overall development of different regions of the country. Focusing on education, energy security, and regional development, this decision is a positive step towards improving the lives of the common people.
