New Delhi: Political reactions intensified after the cancellation of NEET UG 2026 over paper leak allegations. NSUI workers staged protests outside Shastri Bhavan, while Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the Modi government, claiming the medical entrance exam had become an “auction” that shattered the dreams of over 22 lakh students.

NSUI Workers Protest After NEET Cancellation

The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) workers on Tuesday staged protests against the Central Government after the NEET-UG 2026 examination was cancelled amid allegations of paper leaks and large-scale irregularities.

Protesters gathered outside Shastri Bhavan in New Delhi and were seen climbing barricades while raising slogans against the government and the National Testing Agency (NTA). The demonstration came hours after authorities announced that the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 would be cancelled and re-conducted on fresh dates.

The NEET examination this year witnessed participation from nearly 22.79 lakh students. According to NTA data, the exam was conducted across 551 cities in India and 14 international cities through more than 5,400 examination centres.

Rahul Gandhi Attacks Government Over Paper Leak

Earlier Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi strongly criticised the alleged paper leak, calling NEET an “auction” rather than an examination.

In a post on X, Gandhi alleged that question papers were being sold on WhatsApp nearly 42 hours before the examination. He claimed that over the past 10 years, at least 89 examination papers had leaked and 48 re-examinations had been conducted across the country.

“I heard the news about the NEET 2026 paper leak. It's not an exam anymore—NEET is now an auction,” he wrote.

He further accused the Modi government of destroying the future of the youth and said the trust of more than 22 lakh students had been shattered due to repeated examination controversies.

Rajasthan Leaders Also React Strongly

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also expressed disappointment over the cancellation of the examination.

In a statement posted on X, Gehlot alleged that there had been large-scale malpractice in the NEET examination and accused the BJP government in Rajasthan of trying to suppress the issue for weeks.

He stated that the NTA’s decision to cancel the exam and transfer the investigation to the CBI was a “bold decision” taken in the interest of students.

CBI Probe Intensifies Political Debate

The Centre has already handed over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a detailed probe into allegations related to paper leaks and examination irregularities.

The controversy has now turned into a major political issue, with opposition parties demanding accountability and stricter measures to protect the integrity of national-level competitive examinations.

Meanwhile, lakhs of students remain anxious as they wait for the announcement of fresh examination dates by the NTA.
