New Delhi: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's planned visit to India in December has been postponed again due to security concerns. Following the recent bombings in Delhi, security agencies reported increased risk, prompting a high-level decision. The visit was considered crucial in terms of the strategic relationship between the two countries.

Why was the visit postponed?

On November 10, 13 people were killed in a suicide attack near Delhi's Red Fort. The investigation revealed an organized terrorist plot involving multiple individuals. The interrogation of the main accused, Omar Nabi, revealed a large network, which alerted national security agencies.

Against this backdrop, Netanyahu's proposed visit has been postponed to avoid any security risks. Indian and Israeli agencies jointly advised that the visit be conducted at a later date, when the situation is fully under control.

Netanyahu was scheduled to visit India after six years

The Israeli Prime Minister last visited India in January 2018. This visit was considered historic as it energized relations between the two countries. Prior to this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his first bilateral visit to Israel in 2017.

Following both visits, cooperation in areas such as defense, agriculture, cybersecurity, and water management increased significantly. Netanyahu's upcoming visit was also considered important to strengthen this direction.

Piyush Goyal's visit to Israel sent new signals

Union Minister Piyush Goyal recently returned from a three-day visit to Israel. He also met with Prime Minister Netanyahu. During this visit, the two countries discussed several points of agreement on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and decided to elevate economic, strategic, and defense cooperation to a new level.

Following Goyal's visit, it was hoped that Netanyahu's visit to India would provide concrete progress on these discussions.

Investigation and controversy following the blast

Investigative agencies swiftly launched their operations after the Delhi blast. Several arrests were made after the terrorist module was exposed.

Meanwhile, Al-Falah University in Faridabad became embroiled in controversy. It is believed that the university was used as a base for terrorist networks. Investigative agencies have arrested its Vice Chancellor.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) is considering revoking the university's accreditation, while the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has already suspended its membership.

What's next? A new date may be announced soon

The date of Netanyahu's visit will be announced later, following diplomatic talks between the two countries.

However, it is believed that a new date for his visit will be finalized as soon as the security situation normalizes and the investigation is complete.
