New Delhi: New Zealand has got a big blow in the ongoing T20 tri-series in Zimbabwe. The team's key all-rounder Glenn Phillips is out of this entire series. He has suffered a back injury and this is the reason why he will not be able to play a single match in this series. He suffered this injury during the final match of Major League Cricket before leaving for Zimbabwe.

After reaching Zimbabwe, the team's medical staff examined him, in which it was found that Phillips may take several weeks to become fully fit. Due to this, he is not only out of the T20 series, but will also not be able to participate in the upcoming two Test matches, for which he was already included in the team.

Two more players will return to their country along with Phillips
Phillips has been replaced by Tim Robinson in the team as a cover player, who will be with the team for the remaining matches of the ongoing T20 tri-series with Zimbabwe. Along with Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Hay and Jimmy Neesham will also return to New Zealand from Zimbabwe. The team management is yet to announce Phillips' replacement in the Test team.

Great performance in MLC
Glenn Phillips played 10 matches for Washington Freedom in MLC 2024, scoring 186 runs at an average of 62 and a strike rate of 139.84. However, his team lost to MI New York in the final. This is the second time this year he has had to deal with a back injury. Earlier in IPL 2024, he was included as a substitute for Gujarat Titans, but had to miss most of the matches due to injury.

New Zealand suffered another setback when Finn Allen also suffered a leg injury while playing for San Francisco Unicorns during Major League Cricket. He was earlier selected for this tour, but now he is also out of the team.
