Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday urged people not to believe in rumours regarding shortage of essential commodities, asserting that there is no scarcity of petrol, diesel or LPG in Jammu and Kashmir at present.

The Chief Minister said, “It is unfortunate that when the government speaks, people don’t listen, but they believe rumours. We have reviewed the situation and there is no shortage of diesel, petrol or LPG cylinders. The situation remains unchanged over the past few days.”

Avoid unnecessary rush

He appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary rush at petrol pumps, warning that panic-driven queues could worsen the situation. “I request people not to line up outside petrol pumps based on social media rumours. If this continues, we may have to temporarily shut pumps to control the situation. There is no need for fear as supplies are adequate,” he said.

Referring to the broader situation, Abdullah said the Centre is closely monitoring developments and ensuring availability of essential supplies. “At present, there is no shortage anywhere in the country. People should remain calm and rely only on official information,” he added.

PM Modi to hold nationwide review with states on conflict preparedness

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold interaction with chief ministers from across the country on Friday to review the nation’s preparedness amid the ongoing conflict, now in its fourth week.

However, chief ministers from states where assembly elections are due will not participate, in line with the model code of conduct (MCC). To ensure these regions are also kept in the loop, a separate meeting for the chief secretaries of the poll-bound states will be arranged shortly.

Elections are slated to be held in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and the union territory of Puducherry. These areas will therefore follow a different review mechanism to maintain compliance with electoral rules.
