New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with chief ministers of states and union territories on Friday to assess the country’s preparedness in light of the ongoing West Asia conflict.

Sources said the meeting aims to ensure coordinated action between the Centre and states under a “Team India” approach.

Focus on Preparedness and Coordination

The interaction is expected to cover preparedness measures across sectors, including supply chains, energy security, and essential services.

Officials indicated that the government is keen on maintaining seamless coordination with states to minimise any potential disruptions caused by the prolonged conflict.

Poll-Bound States to Skip Meeting

States heading for assembly elections next month will not participate in the meeting due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.

These include West BengalTamil NaduKeralaAssam, and the union territory of Puducherry.

A separate meeting involving officials from these regions is expected to be scheduled at a later stage.

Elections Timeline Announced

Polling in Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry is scheduled for April 9, while Tamil Nadu will vote on April 23. West Bengal will go to the polls in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes for all these regions will take place on May 4.

CCS Review on Ongoing Crisis

Earlier, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security to review the evolving situation in West Asia. During the meeting, he emphasised the need to safeguard Indian citizens and minimise the impact of the conflict on key sectors.

Focus on Energy and Agriculture

Discussions also covered measures to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and adequate availability of fertilisers for farmers.

The government is exploring strategies such as diversifying import sources and boosting exports to new markets to cushion the economy against external shocks.
