Bhubaneswar: As many as four students of a high school in Bissamcuttack block of Rayagada district got burn injuries while playing with fire.

According to reports a classmate allegedly threw some thinner on the floor and set it ablaze at the Upgraded High School in Paik Dakuluguda on Monday.

Though the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, the Muniguda police has begun an investigation into the incident.

Preliminary reports suggest that four students were caught in the fire while some of the students were playing with the paint thinner kept nearby. One of the students perhaps threw some thinner on the floor and set it on fire.

Students went to the toilet
According to the information received, at around 3 PM, some students from the school went to the toilet in the school premises. During this time, one student allegedly poured thinner on four other students and set them on fire with a match.

The students engulfed in flames started screaming. The incident caused panic in the school.

Upon receiving the information, the teachers acted promptly, rescued the four students from the fire, and immediately took them to the Bismakattak Community Health Center.

After primary treatment there, considering their serious condition, all of them were referred to the Christian Hospital. Biraj Takri is reported to be in the most critical condition.

The injured students have been identified as Biraj Takri, Nalin Huika, and Rohit Khara from the seventh grade, and Sudab Bagh from the fifth grade.

This incident occurring during school hours has raised questions about the education system and the safety of the students.

Principal was teaching in another building
Regarding the incident, the school principal, Chandan Kalkar, said that he was teaching in another building of the school at the time of the incident. Upon receiving the information, a medical team reached the spot.

He said that he would gather information about the entire incident from other teachers and investigate the reasons behind it.

Currently, there is an atmosphere of anger in the area regarding the incident, and parents are expressing concern about the security arrangements in the school premises.

They are demanding a thorough investigation into the matter and strict action against the culprits.
