PM Modi to visit violence-hit Manipur on Sept 13, meeting victims, addressing public, and launching development projects worth ₹8,500 crore across Churachandpur and Imphal to promote peace and progress.
PM Modi likely to visit Manipur
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Manipur on September 13, 2025—this is his first visit since violence between Meitei and Kuki communities began in May 2023.
PM Modi will arrive from Aizawl in Mizoram and from there will go to Churachandpur district around 12:30 pm. There he will meet people affected by the unrest in Churachandpur, and also lay the foundation stone for development works (projects worth about ₹7,300 crores), and address the gathering at Peace Ground.
The PM will then arrive at the state capital, Imphal, at around 2:30 PM, where he will inaugurate projects worth around ₹1,200 crore and hold a public meeting.
Overall, development works worth over ₹8,500 crore will be announced or foundation stones laid. Foundation stones for major projects will be laid in Churachandpur (majority of Kuki community). In Imphal (majority of the Meitei community), infrastructure projects are set to be inaugurated.
The Manipur state government and the Centre have tightened security arrangements, especially around the event venues like Kangla Fort and Peace Ground. Hoardings are being put up in full swing, roadside cleaning and painting preparations are being done, and entry routes are being secured.
Manipur on high alert before PM Modi visit
Since Churachandpur is a majority Kuki district and Imphal is a Meitei-dominated area, the visit sends a message of accommodation and balance. The visit is being seen as a way to meet violence-affected people, restore trust, and hopefully be a step towards normality and development in the state.
This visit of Modi is not just a formal inauguration but an attempt to restore peace in the state, reassure displaced people, and revive the process of rapid development. While there is hope and confidence, it is also important that after this visit, changes are seen on the ground and not just in claims.
