New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday began a crucial round of meetings with chief ministers of various states to assess preparedness and response strategies in view of the ongoing tensions in West Asia.
This marks the first time the Prime Minister has convened such a meeting with state leaders specifically to discuss the implications of the conflict, which escalated on February 28 following military action by the United States and Israel against Iran.
Sources said chief ministers from poll-bound states were not part of the discussions.
The meeting is aimed at reviewing state-level preparedness, particularly in areas such as supply chains, fuel availability, emergency response mechanisms, and the safety of Indian citizens in the region.
Officials indicated that the Centre is keen on ensuring coordination between states and central agencies to handle any potential fallout of the geopolitical crisis.
The situation in West Asia has remained volatile, with Iran retaliating against the initial strikes by targeting its Gulf neighbours as well as Israel, raising fears of a broader regional escalation.
Given India’s economic and strategic interests in the region, the government is closely monitoring developments and preparing for any disruptions, especially in energy supplies and trade routes.
The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of coordinated action between the Centre and states to mitigate risks and maintain stability. The meeting is expected to result in a comprehensive strategy to address challenges arising from the evolving situation.
