New Delhi: A statement by Pappu Yadav, independent MP from Purnia, Bihar, has created a big controversy. He made such comments regarding women and politics, to which many political parties and organizations reacted strongly.
During the discussion in Lok Sabha, Pappu Yadav said that in India women are called goddesses, but in reality they do not get respect. She also said that a culture of exploitation of women exists in politics.

The Bihar State Women's Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of this matter. The Commission has asked the MP why he made such a statement and why action should not be taken against him.
The Commission says that such statements hurt the dignity and respect of women, especially those women who are active in politics. This controversy has come to light at a time when Narendra Modi has accused the opposition of being against women.
This issue is related to the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill 2026, which could not be passed in the Lok Sabha. The government says that the opposition did not support this bill in the interest of women, while the opposition was opposing it for different reasons.
This whole matter has further heated up the political atmosphere. On one hand, there is talk of respect and rights of women, while on the other hand, questions are being raised on the statements of leaders.
