New Delhi: Rain in Delhi-NCR completely changed the weather. The activation of a western disturbance brought cloudy skies, and light to moderate rain was recorded in many areas. Cold winds accompanied by the rain increased the chill, making people feel the harsh winter once again.

Western Disturbances Cause Weather Changes

According to the Meteorological Department, three western disturbances are expected to become active between February 1 and 7. The first two will be effective from January 31 to February 3, while the third will be active from February 5. These disturbances are expected to bring snowfall in the Himalayan states and rain in the plains of northwest India. In this context, the Meteorological Department had issued a yellow alert for Sunday.

Melting increased after the rain

After the rain stopped, cold winds in Delhi-NCR further increased the chill. People faced severe discomfort from the cold during the morning and evening. In many areas, people were seen sheltering around bonfires and using warm clothing. The Meteorological Department had previously predicted rain for three days, but has now revised its forecast, predicting rain only until Sunday.

January 2026 Was Colder

According to Meteorological Department data, January 2026 was colder than last year. The average maximum temperature during this period was 20.1 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 6.8 degrees Celsius. In January 2025, the average maximum temperature was 21.1 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 8.5 degrees Celsius.

Impact of Fog, Mist, and Cold Winds

Fog and haze enveloped Delhi on Saturday morning, reducing visibility. Strong, icy winds exacerbated people's discomfort. A brief period of sunshine during the day brought relief, but by evening, cold winds once again made the weather chilly.

Temperature Update and Forecast

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature on Saturday was 21.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 6.7 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 7.7 degrees Celsius at the Ridge, 6.6 degrees Celsius at Aya Nagar, 7.1 degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road, and 8.1 degrees Celsius at Palam.

The minimum temperature will fluctuate in the coming days. Cold winds are expected to blow at speeds of 5 to 10 kilometers per hour between February 4 and 6, which could further intensify the cold.
