Trump aides to visit India on June 1 (Img: Internet)
New Delhi: A high-level United States delegation led by its chief trade negotiator will visit India from June 1 to June 4 for discussions on the proposed interim trade agreement and the broader India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), the government said on Wednesday.
The upcoming round of negotiations follows earlier in-person talks held in Washington DC between April 20 and April 23 as both countries continue efforts to strengthen economic cooperation.

According to the Commerce Ministry, the discussions in New Delhi will focus on finalising details related to the interim trade arrangement while simultaneously advancing negotiations under the wider bilateral trade pact.
Key areas expected to be discussed include market access, customs facilitation, non-tariff barriers, investment promotion and economic security cooperation.
India and the United States had earlier issued a joint statement on February 7, 2026, outlining a framework for a reciprocal and mutually beneficial interim trade agreement. The framework also reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to pursuing a comprehensive bilateral trade deal.
The upcoming talks come at a time when global trade conditions are witnessing fresh shifts. With the United States applying a uniform 10 per cent tariff structure to trading partners, both sides are expected to review certain trade arrangements and recalibrate negotiation priorities.

The issue of US investigations under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 is also likely to remain part of the broader discussions. Earlier this year, the Office of the US Trade Representative initiated probes involving multiple countries, including India, over concerns related to supply chains and labour practices.
India has rejected the allegations and questioned the basis of the investigations.
The fresh trade talks also coincide with growing cooperation between India and the US in areas such as defence, energy and critical minerals.
Recently, both countries finalised a framework for cooperation in ensuring stable supplies of critical minerals amid global concerns over export restrictions on rare earth materials and strategic metals.
