Tamenglong: Two women belonging to the Kuki community were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Manipur’s Tamenglong district, police said. The incident took place on Tuesday in Leisang Kuki village, according to officials.

The women had reportedly gone to a farming area when the attackers opened fire. Both women died in the shooting.

Farmhouses Also Set Ablaze

Police said several farmhouses in the area were also set on fire during the incident. The attack has raised fresh concerns about the safety of people living and working in remote areas of the district.

Security personnel have been deployed in the area following the incident, while efforts are underway to establish what led to the attack.

Attackers Yet To Be Identified

The identities of the gunmen are not known at this stage. Police are investigating the shooting and trying to establish the sequence of events.
