The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in several districts of western Uttar Pradesh on 16 February.

UP on alert as Bay of Bengal system develops
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is witnessing fluctuating weather conditions, with warm afternoons giving way to chilly evenings. While bright sunshine during the day has prompted many to shed winter wear, cold winds after sunset are bringing back the nip in the air.
Amid these changing patterns, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert for parts of the state, raising concerns among farmers and residents.
Thunderstorms, Rain Expected in Western UP
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in several districts of western Uttar Pradesh on February 16.
However, from February 11 to 14, the weather across the state is expected to remain largely clear and dry. During this period, maximum temperatures may rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius, making daytime conditions warmer than usual.
Fog Entering Final Phase
Meteorologists say the fog season in Uttar Pradesh is now nearing its end. Maximum temperatures in western UP are already running above normal.
Meanwhile, districts in eastern UP - including Gorakhpur, Pilibhit, Deoria, and Varanasi - may experience light fog in the early morning hours. The fog is expected to clear as the day progresses, giving way to bright sunshine.
Western Disturbance to Influence Weather
A new western disturbance is moving eastward and is likely to impact weather conditions in North India. Its influence could strengthen cold winds across the plains and lead to a slight drop in minimum temperatures.
The system may also bring light to moderate rainfall to parts of Uttar Pradesh. Farmers have been advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts.
Pleasant Conditions in Lucknow
In Lucknow, weather conditions remain stable. On February 11, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 27°C, while the minimum may settle near 11°C.
Light to moderate winds will keep the day pleasant, though mornings and evenings may feel slightly chilly. Air Quality Index (AQI) levels could fluctuate due to residual fog.
Bay of Bengal System Under Watch
The IMD has also reported the formation of a new weather system over the Bay of Bengal. At present, it is unlikely to significantly impact mainland India, though some parts of South India may see light cloud cover.
The system could gradually move toward Central India in the coming days. For now, most regions across South, Central, East, and Northeast India are expected to experience clear and dry weather.
