Weather: Rain drenches parts of Delhi-NCR; Several areas waterlogged after overnight showers

New Delhi: Rains hit parts of Delhi on Thursday morning amid 'Orange' alert by India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rain, thunderstorm or lightning and strong winds, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The Weather Office has predicted light to moderate rain for Thursday morning in the Delhi-NCR Region. At the same time light rainfall is likely to cover the entire Delhi-NCR.

IMD wrote on X, "Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to occur at NCR, Bahadurgarh, Manesar) Light rainfall is very likely to occur at the entire Delhi, NCR (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh) and Very Light rainfall/drizzle is very likely to occur over the entire Delhi during the next 2 hours."

Due to overnight heavy downpour, several roads were flooded causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

Delhi Weather for Next 7 Days

The weather department has predicted light rainfall in Delhi-NCR continuing until August 5. In its July 30 bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall over northeast India during the next seven days.

Air Quality

The air quality in the morning was recorded in the satisfactory category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 58, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

As per the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is classified as 'good', 51 to 100 as 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 as 'moderate', 201 to 300 as 'poor', 301 to 400 as 'very poor', and 401 to 500 as 'severe'.

Safety Advisory

The weather conditions require residents to be cautious while commuting, as roads may be slippery. Waterproof equipment such as raincoats, shoes and umbrellas are a must for those venturing out.

Residents are advised to keep an eye on waterlogging areas, especially in low-lying areas of the city. Those working from home can continue with their indoor activities, while commuters should plan their travel accordingly.
