New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is no longer a part of the INDIA alliance, senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said on Wednesday, indicating a formal separation from the opposition bloc after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

AAP and the Congress had contested the Lok Sabha polls together in Delhi under the INDIA alliance banner. However, the two parties subsequently fought the Haryana and Delhi Assembly elections independently.

'Alliance Was Only for Lok Sabha Elections'

Speaking to ANI, Singh said the party had already clarified its position regarding the opposition alliance.

“We have clarified our position that the INDIA alliance was there till the Lok Sabha elections. As far as Parliament is concerned, we have always been opposing all the wrong policies of the government,” he said.

Singh further stated that AAP is no longer officially associated with the INDIA bloc.

“We said that officially, the Aam Aadmi Party is not with the INDIA alliance as of today. Our alliance was for the Lok Sabha elections,” he added.

Focus on Slum Demolition Issue

The AAP leader said the party's immediate concern is the alleged demolition of homes and shops belonging to people from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Purvanchal communities in Delhi.

“Currently, the issue for us is the way the homes and shops of people of Bihar, UP and Purvanchal are being bulldozed and destroyed. This is the issue we will raise in Parliament in the context of Delhi,” Singh said.

Monsoon Session to Begin on July 21

AAP plans to raise the issue during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, scheduled to be held from July 21 to August 21.

Earlier, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal had also criticised the BJP-led Delhi government over the alleged demolition of slums, accusing it of making poor families homeless.
