As the state gears up for Bihar polls in November 2025, CPI-ML has released two lists of candidates, contesting 20 assembly seats. Can its renewed focus on social justice, farmers’ rights, and rural youth help it expand its Mahagathbandhan footprint?
CPI-ML steps into Bihar Election battle with 20 candidates.
Patna: As political temperatures rise ahead of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist), or CPI-ML, has officially announced its candidates for 20 constituencies. The Left party, part of the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), has released both its first and second candidate lists, underlining its intent to consolidate rural and working-class votes across the state.
CPI-ML leaders say the candidate selection reflects social balance and regional representation, with an emphasis on youth leadership and grassroots activism.
In the first phase, CPI-ML has named 14 candidates, most of whom have strong organizational roots and mass appeal in their respective areas.
The list includes:
Dhananjay (Bhoor), Amarjeet Kushwaha (Jiradei), Satyadev Ram (Daraunda), Amarnath Yadav (Daraunda), Ranjit Kumar Ram (Kalyanpur), Phoolbabu Singh (Warisnagar), Vishwanath Chaudhary (Rajgir), Divya Gautam (Digha), Gopal Ravidas (Phulwari), Sandeep Saurabh (Paliganj), Kyamuddin Ansari (Ara), Shiv Prakash Ranjan (Agiaon), Madan Singh (Tarari), and Ajit Kumar Singh (Dumraon).
CPI-ML’s state secretary said these candidates have “a direct connection with the people, representing the voices of farmers, workers, and marginalized communities.”
The second list includes six more candidates — Virendra Prasad Gupta (Sikta), Anil Kumar (Pipra, Supaul), Mahboob Alam (Balrampur), Arun Singh (Karkat), Mahanand Singh (Arewal), and Ram Bali Singh Yadav (Ghosi).
The party emphasized that these names were chosen for their grassroots activism and community reach, particularly in regions where the Left has a consistent voter base.
The CPI-ML’s 2025 campaign centers on the slogan “Vikas ke Saath Samajik Nyay” (Development with Social Justice). The party promises to champion farmers’ rights, employment opportunities, quality education, healthcare, and the fight against caste-based discrimination.
Party spokespersons said they will hold the ruling government accountable on unemployment, price rise, and agrarian distress, aiming to present themselves as a credible alternative for the poor and working class.
Bihar Polls to cover all 243 assembly constituencies across 38 districts.
In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, CPI-ML won 12 seats, emerging as the largest Left party in the assembly. This year, it aims to double that figure, banking on its expanding network and partnership within the Mahagathbandhan, which also includes RJD and Congress.
The party is expected to unveil its manifesto and campaign plan soon, focusing heavily on rural mobilization and youth engagement.
The Election Commission of India has finalized the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 schedule for all 243 constituencies across two phases:
