Mamata removes 'Honourable CM of West Bengal' from X bio (Img: Internet)
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee updated her profile description on X on Friday, hours after Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal.
The change quickly drew political attention, with many interpreting it as a sign that Banerjee has formally acknowledged the BJP’s victory in the state Assembly elections.
Her updated bio now identifies her as the “Founder Chairperson All India Trinamool Congress” and mentions that she served as Chief Minister during the 15th, 16th and 17th Vidhan Sabha terms. Earlier, the profile described her as the “Honourable Chief Minister, West Bengal.”
The update came shortly after the BJP officially formed its first government in West Bengal following a sweeping electoral victory. The party secured 207 seats in the Assembly elections, ending the long-standing dominance of the Trinamool Congress in state politics.
Suvendu Adhikari took oath as Chief Minister during a large ceremony at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers and senior NDA leaders.
The BJP has described the mandate as historic and promised governance focused on development, law and order, and administrative reforms.
Banerjee’s profile change has become politically significant because it follows her earlier remarks challenging the election outcome.
After the results were declared, the TMC leader had questioned the poll process and alleged irregularities during the elections. She had also maintained that the verdict did not reflect a genuine public mandate and strongly criticised the Election Commission.
At multiple public interactions after the defeat, Banerjee indicated that she would continue to politically challenge the BJP despite losing power in the state.
