Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has once again taken a major organisational decision by removing Akash Anand from the party. The move comes shortly after senior BSP leader Ashok Siddharth announced his retirement from active politics, triggering fresh discussions over the party’s internal equation and future leadership plan.
The decision has created a stir in Uttar Pradesh politics, especially ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Akash Anand, who was once seen as Mayawati’s political successor, has faced uncertainty over his role in the party in recent months.
Mayawati has maintained that party discipline and commitment to the BSP’s ideology will remain her top priority. The BSP chief has taken action against leaders whenever she felt that organisational discipline was being affected.
Akash Anand’s political journey inside the party has seen several ups and downs. He was given important responsibilities and was projected as a young face of BSP, but later differences over political approach and party functioning led to changes in his position.
The latest development comes after Ashok Siddharth, a former Rajya Sabha MP and a close associate of the BSP leadership, stepped away from active politics.
His retirement had become a key point of discussion after Mayawati indicated that certain organisational changes could be considered. The development also brought renewed focus on Akash Anand’s future role within the party.
With Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approaching, Mayawati’s latest move has raised questions about BSP’s leadership roadmap and succession plans.
The party is now facing the challenge of strengthening its ground network and reconnecting with voters ahead of the crucial 2027 electoral battle. Akash Anand’s removal has once again put the spotlight on the direction BSP plans to take in the coming months.
