New Delhi: People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has come under criticism after photographs and videos from a protest in Jammu and Kashmir appeared to show the Indian National Flag being displayed in an incorrect orientation.
The visuals, which have been widely shared on social media platforms, appear to show the green band of the Tricolour at the top and the saffron band at the bottom. The images have triggered reactions from political opponents and several social media users, who questioned the manner in which the national flag was displayed.

According to the Flag Code of India, the Tricolour must be displayed with the saffron band at the top, followed by the white band with the navy-blue Ashoka Chakra, and the green band at the bottom.

The Code provides guidelines regarding the dignity, handling and proper display of the National Flag. However, an incorrect display of the flag does not automatically establish intent, and each incident has to be viewed in its specific context.
The viral visuals have intensified political debate in Jammu and Kashmir, with critics demanding clarification from Mehbooba Mufti and the PDP leadership.
