Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK chief C Joseph Vijay on Monday delivered his first major public address after the party’s victory in the state elections, asserting that there would be “no compromise” on state rights, secularism and people-centric governance.
Addressing a large gathering, Vijay said the political contest in Tamil Nadu was now primarily between the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the DMK, while also criticising both the DMK and AIADMK during his speech.

The actor-turned-politician said the people of Tamil Nadu had rejected the traditional political setup and chosen TVK as a new alternative. “Even now, I say this politically: the contest is only between two parties, one is the DMK and the other is the TVK,” Vijay said during the rally.
He accused the former ruling establishment of promoting “family politics” and claimed that voters had chosen a leadership focused on public service. Vijay also described himself as the “first servant” of the people rather than merely the chief minister.
During the speech, Vijay stressed that his government would stand firmly on issues related to state rights and secular values. He said the TVK administration would work for all sections of society and maintained that governance would remain transparent and simple.
The chief minister also dismissed allegations of horse-trading against his party and instead accused rival political groups of attempting to destabilise the government.

Vijay also addressed discussions surrounding his recent public appearances in formal suits. Questioning why his clothing choices had become a political issue, he said wearing a coat and suit should not be restricted to people holding positions of authority.
He added that his choice of black and white colours symbolised simplicity and transparency. The chief minister remarked that he preferred speaking briefly at public meetings and wanted to remain focused on governance rather than political criticism.
The rally marked Vijay’s first large-scale public appearance after winning the Tiruchirappalli East seat and later resigning it to retain Perambur in Chennai. Large crowds gathered along the route from the airport to the venue, with supporters welcoming him by showering flowers and waving party flags.
