CM Revanth Reddy Sparks Controversy by Suggesting ‘Donald Trump Avenue’
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has stirred up a political storm by announcing that a prominent road in Hyderabad will be named after US President Donald Trump. The announcement was made at the ‘Telangana Rising Global Summit,’ leading to speculation that the state government is trying to grab international headlines. However, the proposal has given the opposition, particularly the BJP, an opportunity to launch a sharp attack.
Revanth Reddy suggested that the road leading to the US Consulate General in Hyderabad be named “Donald Trump Avenue.” If this proposal is approved, it would likely be the first time a road in India is named after a sitting US president.

Hyderabad has previously named roads and intersections after global companies and leaders. Examples include “Google Street,” “Microsoft Road,” and “Wipro Junction”—reflecting the contributions and presence of these companies in the city. Following this pattern, CM Revanth Reddy has put forward this new proposal.
The BJP has strongly criticized the Chief Minister's proposal. Telangana BJP MP and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar posted on social media that if the state government is so keen on renaming things, it should first rename Hyderabad to "Bhagyanagar."
He mocked the government, saying that the Congress government is renaming parts of the city after “trending personalities,” even though it neither benefits the public nor represents any historical significance. Bandi Sanjay also targeted K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), saying they are busy creating their own “AI statues” while they are still alive.

He asserted that the BJP is the only party that is taking to the streets, protesting against public issues, and demanding answers from the government. Discussion intensifies over political and diplomatic implications
Following the proposal, discussions have intensified regarding its political and diplomatic implications. Many political analysts believe that naming a street after Trump sends a diplomatic message, as it could add a new symbolic dimension to US-India relations. However, some experts argue that naming a street after a sitting president is inconsistent with established diplomatic protocols and appears to be a hasty decision.
The decision has elicited mixed reactions among the citizens of Hyderabad. Some view it as a step that will strengthen the city's global identity, while many residents believe that streets should be named after local heroes, scientists, and historical figures rather than foreign leaders.
